 City Portal www.mannheim.de based on Oracle and inxire ECM SuiteThe City of Mannheim is converting its Internet Portal to XML, Oracle and inxire ECMThe City of Mannheim has made a step in the direction of e-Government systems of the future by converting from pure HTML to the media neutral XML format for all edited contents.
By separating layout and contents, all information is suitable for further processing and other IT systems right up to easy preparation for print media. Output to cordless terminals – an interesting subject not only for major modern cities like Mannheim – can be realized in this manner with a minimum of effort. In Mannheim, the subject of service for citizens and interaction is emphasized particularly – objectives which can be achieved more easily with the new solution.  The entire portal – from editing system all the way to Web server – uses the inxire® iO Smart ECM Suite – in the meantime in Version 3.0 -, a new software suite for management of content, documents and knowledge from inxire GmbH. The standard product is based on the Oracle platform and is distinguished particularly by its modular design and use of Oracle standard software (Oracle CM SDK, Oracle 10g, Oracle 10g AS). This mature technology in combination with the intuitive operability was decisive for inxire and Oracle. Moreover, the SAGA standard for e-Government is implemented, which was defined within the scope of the initiative BundOnline 2005. Cost savings through own entry Thanks to the convenient WYSIWYG XML editor, it was possible for the customer to enter the entire contents for the portal himself. The layout for the Internet site was implemented by inxire and the employees of the City of Mannheim together pixel-precise and browser-neutral in high quality, according to a graphic style guide. The modular design of the software helped to minimize further efforts. Increase in value through media neutral documentation All contents and product information are present in XML – and therefore, in a non-proprietary format. This increases the value of the now media neutral database significantly, because the information can be further processed using other output media (e.g. PDF, print or wireless). Project data This project was accomplished under the project management of inxire GmbH in close cooperation with the department of information technology of the City of Mannheim. Entry of the entire contents was accomplished by the employees of the City of Mannheim in various offices and departments on their own. Less than 20 men days were required for adaptation of the inxire® iO standard products. Migration from Version 2.0 to 3.0 –including migration of the Oracle Software (9i to 10g) and the entire contents was accomplished in August within a few days.
